Large multipurpose port with facilities lying along the Terneuzen-Ghent Canal and numerous adjoining docks. The port handles dry and liquid bulk, Ro-Ro, breakbulk containers and forest products and has excellent intermodal transport links. The port is linked to the North Sea by the Westerschelde, the lock complex at Terneuzen and the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal. The port of Ghent is a Core port in the North Sea-Mediterranean and Rhine-Alpine Corridors in the European Union's Trans-European Transport Network.
