A naturally sheltered port, Gladstone is the principal port of central Queensland. It is one of the largest coal export ports in Australia. Imports include ammonia, bauxite, bunker fuel, caustic soda, copper slag, gypsum, LPG, liquid pitch, magnetite, petcoke and petroleum products. Exports include alumina, aluminium, ammonium nitrate, calcite, cement, cement clinker, coal, cotton seed, fly ash, ilmenite, limestone, magnesia, magnesite and scrap metal.
